My trip report for a HF radio SOTA activation of Hardown Hill in Dorset, about two kilometres from the English Channel.

A Summits on the Air walk to the summit of Lewesdon Hill, the highest point in Dorset, with an ancient woodland surrounding the hill.

Arthur’s Seat is an extinct volcano rising above Edinburgh. I climbed from Holyroodhouse on a crisp winter’s day. An easy urban SOTA activation.

Cracoe Fell’s stone obelisk makes this Yorkshire Dales summit unmistakable. S2S into Greece on 17m. Pleasant walk from Cracoe village via Fell Lane.

Rombalds Moor, better known as Ilkley Moor. Quick activation from the southern approach. HF proved stubborn but 2m FM delivered the contacts when needed.

Sharp Haw near Skipton is a pointed Marilyn. My first HF-only activation with the KX2. S2S into Mallorca on 17m. 21 contacts across three bands. Excellent.

Fountains Fell in the Yorkshire Dales, named after Fountains Abbey. Pleasant gravel tracks and grass to a spacious summit. Pairs well with Pen-y-ghent.

Pen-y-ghent, one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Quieter southern approach from Silverdale Road. Operated from the summit wall. A classic Yorkshire fell.

Buckden Pike in the Yorkshire Dales is a fine 6-pointer. Boggy lower slopes but good paths higher up. S2S with Sharp Haw and a contact into Scotland.

Great Whernside in the Yorkshire Dales. S2S with Kinder Scout on 2m, then first outing for my Elecraft KX2 on 40m. Pairs well with Buckden Pike.
